SEVEN-DAY AMBOSELI/LAKES NAIVASHA & NAKURU/HELL’S GATE/MASAI MARA PARK –

BIG 7 SAFARI

Starting from/returning to Nairobi area hotels, airport, or location of your choice.

We’ll pick you up in style – your own private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep.

This relaxed seven-day, five-park tour is a great way for couples and entire families to enjoy a safari vacation in Africa. Imagine, a full-week journey to Kenya’s most popular parks to view elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, and exotics like rhino, leopard, and even pink flamingoes! This Africa safari will delight adventurers of all ages.

We’ll begin our week at Amboseli National Park, seated near the base of Africa’s tallest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro. With the snow-capped mountain as your background, get your camera ready for the steady march of grand elephants that fill this active park.

The Great Rift Valley lakes welcome us next, with their ostriches, cormorants, and pink flamingoes. We’ll take an easy sailing safari on Lake Naivasha, past hippos, grazing antelope and giraffe on the nearby shore. Rhinos, monkeys, and sometimes pink flamingoes will greet us at pretty Lake Nakuru National Park. And we’ll bicycle past foraging buffalo and zebra at nearby Hell’s Gate National Park.

For the big finale of this week-long Africa safari, we’ll enter Masai country – the rolling hills and dense savannah of the thriving Masai Mara National Reserve. Expect to find wildlife in numbers not usually seen elsewhere. Between the many prides of lions habituating here and the famous Great Migration of uncountable wildebeests, your safari plate will be very full.

What’s Cool About These Parks?

Lion, cheetah, zebra, and giraffe populate Amboseli Park, but it’s the elephants that are the signature attraction here. So many, that you are guaranteed sightings in this compact but very active national park.

Even on safari, rhinos are not an everyday sight, but you’ll have a chance to view these unusual and shy creatures at Lake Nakuru’s special sanctuary. Here you’ll find rare Rothschild’s giraffes ambling through the acacia woods plus monkeys, baboons, and the occasional leopard.

It’s the richest ecosystem in the region and one of the most active in Africa, the Masai Mara is world-famous for its big cats, crocodiles, hippos, and streams of unending wildebeests and zebras. When you’ve seen the Mara, you have seen Africa.

Day 1

Nairobi – Amboseli

4 Hour Drive

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

7:30 am  Get ready for a full week of safari action. Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will arrive at your hotel, residence, Nairobi airport, or place of your choosing with a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Hop aboard and we’ll travel down the Nairobi/Mombasa Highway toward Amboseli Park.

We’ll journey past the fields and local farms with possible sightings of Masai herders tending their cattle.

Look for towering Mt. Kilimanjaro as our beacon to the park. We should arrive at Amboseli around lunchtime. We’ll freshen up at our accommodation, enjoy lunch and get ready for our first big game drive.

The park is a delightful mix of large and smaller game – elephants, buffalo, big cats and also monkey, baboon, and lots of birdlife like pelicans.

Toward evening turn to view mighty Kilimanjaro – the clouds hiding its snow-capped peak may disperse revealing the summit, an unforgettable vista.

We’ll head back to our safari lodge or tented camp for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 2

Full-Day at Amboseli

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

This is the safari life – a full day of unlimited game drives. You’ll get to know the park and its different environs, and the wildlife that thrive here.

We’ll go for a pre-breakfast game drive to see the park in the day’s early light when the animals first emerge.

Breakfast and a mid-morning drive will follow. You may go up to Observation Hill for stunning views in all directions, including Kilimanjaro. From here you can see the park’s marshes with their rich birdlife such as Egyptian geese.

Lunch follows and more safari time in this compact but busy park.

Feel like you want some moments to relax? Just tell your guide and you can break up your day with some downtime between game drives.

Evening arrives and we’ll head back to our Amboseli accommodation for dinner and thoughts of this active day.

Day 3

Amboseli – Lake Naivasha

6 Hour Drive

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Let’s take a final spin around the park to see who we can spot emerging into the new day.

Then we’ll head north, passing through Nairobi on our way to Lake Naivasha, traveling along the floor of the Great Rift Valley. We should get to the park around lunchtime.

Ever go on a boating safari? We’ll push off on an easy, peaceful sail, gliding by curious hippos with views of grazing antelope and giraffe on the nearby shore.

Finishing out the day, we’ll head to neighboring Crescent Island Sanctuary for a guided walking safari past buffalo, zebra, and lots of colorful birdlife.

Next we’ll head back to our Lake Naivasha safari lodge or tented camp for dinner and a bit of relaxation.

Day 4

Lake Naivasha – Lake Nakuru

1 Hour Drive

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Note: You have a choice to visit nearby Lake Bogoria National Reserve instead where the flamingoes are more plentiful.

Today we’ll visit two more parks – Hell’s Gate is nearby and we can enjoy the unique opportunity of bicycling through its deep canyons, past towering cliffs, right by grazing buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and antelope.

Then we’re off to Lake Nakuru Park for views of every sort of wildlife – monkeys, warthogs, giraffes, rhinos, pelicans, and even some flamingos. This very pretty park is an enchanting mix of waterfalls, woods, acacia forest, and the lake itself. Color and variety abound in this special place.

We’ll rest and enjoy dinner at our Lake Nakuru accommodation

Day 5

Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

6 – 7 Hour Drive

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

This pretty park lends itself to the soft morning light. We’ll take an early bird and game viewing safari and then exit, on our way to the Masai Mara.

We’ll stop for lunch on the way to the park, to rest and admire the scenery as we head into Masai country.

We’ll get to the Masai Mara in plenty of time for an afternoon game drive.

You’ll be struck by the expanse of the Mara, its rolling hills, bright savannahs, and photogenic acacia trees.

This is a deeply concentrated region of bountiful wildlife – over 95 species of mammals. You’ll be tracking for great numbers of large and small game – everything from lions to mongoose, to gazelle. Enjoy your first impressions of the Mara – you’ll be seeing lots more tomorrow.

We’ll retire for rest and dinner at our Mara accommodation.

Day 6

Full Day at the Masai Mara

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

This will be an unforgettable day on safari in Kenya. Discuss with your guide which areas of the park you’d like to explore.

Usually, we’ll head down to the Mara River, site of the crossing herds of the Great Migration (July – October). During this season, uncountable thousands of wildebeests, zebras, gazelle, eland, topi, and more flood into the Mara from the neighboring Serengeti on a survival trek for water and taller grasses.

Waiting for them in the river are crocodiles and then, great numbers of big cats throughout the park. The spectacle can be awe-inspiring, dramatic, and moving.

If you wish to experience this sight from above, we suggest an optional pre-dawn hot air balloon safari. Sail into the new day as the park comes alive with sunlight and views of innumerable wildlife streaming out to the horizon. Your guide can make all the arrangements for this not-to-be-missed event.

For a special cultural moment, we recommend an optional visit to a nearby Maasai village. Here you’ll get to meet these local people and learn about their lives and unique herding lifestyle.

As evening approaches, look to the west for a piercing Mara sunset. We’ll spend our final safari night at our Masai Mara accommodation.

Day 7

Masai Mara – Nairobi

6 Hour Drive

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Let’s catch as much safari action as possible with a pre-breakfast game drive through the park.

We’ll enjoy breakfast at our safari lodge or tented camp and then climb aboard our 4 x 4 for the drive back to Nairobi.

We should get back to town around 4:30 pm and your driver/guide will bring you to your hotel, residence, airport, or place of your choosing.

A full week of safari action at five beautiful parks. So much has occurred this week; you’ll be carrying these memories with you for a long time. Thank you for your interest, trust, and commitment! We at Africa Kenya Safaris have enjoyed sharing our Africa with you.
