FULL-DAY TOUR
SNORKELING IN KENYA & SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS
Sail on an Authentic Dhow & Seafood Lunch
Starting from/returning to your Diani Beach or other coastal resort.

Ever swim, sail, or snorkel with the dolphins? This full-day land and sea excursion will bring you up close to these playful creatures as you skim the waters of the Indian Ocean on a traditional dhow. Climb aboard to sail into the bright colors of Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, known for its excellent aquatic life and bird watching.
We’ll take off from the jetty at the historical fishing village of Shimoni and head for the local island of Wasini. Along our way, we’ll swim, snorkel, and discover the underwater world of coral, dazzling fish, and the resident dolphins inviting us for a swim.
Landing at Wasini Island, we’ll discover local Swahili culture and dive into a luscious seafood bar-b-que and perhaps some relaxing time. Later, back at Shimoni, we’ll make some more historical discoveries to fully round out this adventurous day of Kenya diving and swimming with the dolphins.
Shimoni – Your Sail Begins
You’ll find British colonial ruins here as well as a rich coast, forest, and historical caves. In the evening listen for the calls to prayer and sometimes the sweet aroma of cloves in the air. Your sail begins and ends at this small village.

Wasini Island
This tiny island a few miles off the coast has no cars or even bicycles – transportation here is by foot or wheelbarrow. Take the boardwalk to discover the stunning coral gardens at the west end of the island. You can also spot humpback whales and dolphins swimming not far from the shore.
Time Capsule: Dhow & Dolphin Adventure
Approximately 6:45 am – Your Africa Kenya Safaris guide will swing by for an early pick-up at your hotel or resort. We’ll head to Shimoni Village passing small coastal towns with views of palms and mango tree plantations.
A motorized dhow will be waiting for us at the Shimoni jetty and we’ll cruise off to the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, passing nearby islands.
We’ll swim, snorkel, check out the exotic sea life and hopefully make friends with welcoming local dolphins.
Landing at Wasini Island, we’ll enjoy a guided walk over the island, visiting its stunning coral garden and mangrove swamps.
Now it’s time for lunch – a bar-b-que of seafood accented with local Swahili dishes. We’ll eat, relax, and then set sail back to Shimoni.
If we have time, we may explore the historic caves where slaves were held before being shipped out to the slave market at Zanzibar.
Sail, swim, snorkel, discover – it’s been a full day of discovery off the Kenya coast.
