Map showing route of safari from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island

Picture this crazy day – you wake up in Nairobi and within hours you are trekking amongst zebras and giraffes! Now let’s step it up a notch – you’re sailing on a beautiful lake gliding past enormous hippos. Ready for more? How about bicycling past natural springs and geysers – up ahead you spot – impala, gazelle, and buffalo. Pedaling by the gently grazing animals you can’t believe how close they are.

Three kinds of special safaris, all within an easy drive of Nairobi… all in one day.

At Africa Kenya Safaris we specialize in creating moments like this. And we make it so easy to get you out on safari. Care to do more trekking, less bicycling? Just let us know – we’re here to make this your adventure.

Hell’s Gate Tours

It’s only a two-hour drive from the heart of Nairobi to this national park known for its geothermal mineral pools and steaming hot springs. You’ll meet your friendly driver/guide at 7 am for the easy drive past the rising Rift Valley towers on your way to the park.

The geysers and steam vents are only part of the drama of Hell’s Gate National Park. As we enter this expressive landscape, you’ll discover great scenic gorges, huge rock formations, and ancient volcanic towers.

Here’s another way Hell’s Gate is unique: In most national parks, you’ll do your exploring from your safari jeep. But at Hell’s gate, you can take a guided walking safari to get near the zebras, gazelles, and giraffes.

And bicycling! In what other park can you ride bikes past grazing giraffes on the flat, level savannah. Pedal your way through brilliant sandstone gorges looking for eland, buffalo, and hartebeest.

Another special treat – look for “Pride Rock”, the towering majestic rock formation that inspired the Disney filmmakers for the animated movie, “The Lion King”.

Care to do more hiking than biking? It’s your choice. Just let us know how you want to experience the park.

Either way, we’ve made a lot of tracks this morning and it’s time for lunch. We’ll continue to Lake Naivasha for a buffet meal at the Naivasha Sopa Resort.

Lake Naivasha

The cool thing about Lake Naivasha is its variety of natural surroundings – a beautiful freshwater lake, rich forest land, dramatic gorges – even volcanoes. We’ll enjoy our lunch at the authentic Sopa Resort and then set sail across the lake on a water safari. You’ll glide near lounging hippos while in the background buffalo, impala, and other grazers appear on the shore.

But take time to explore the nearby papyrus swamps and their abundance of herons and kingfishers. Then tread into the distinctive acacia forest, for it holds hawks, cuckoos, woodpeckers, and other avian surprises.

Stay Connected or Not. Your Choice.

We realize you’re on safari to get away from the usual. Still, there are times you may want to go online… perhaps to share your photos and adventures with friends. Our safari vehicles connect with Wi-Fi, about 75% of the time so you can usually connect when you want.

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary

This special little park is privately owned and easy to negotiate. We’ll take a guided walking safari, moving amongst zebras, giraffes, impalas, and lots of colorful birds. The reserve is quite dense with wildlife but not that many people know about its plentiful treasures.

You may spot hippos, pelicans, and other shorebirds at this jewel of a retreat. Climb the hill here for wonderful views of nearby Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate. It’s easy to fall in love with this charming getaway.

What a healthy break from the city and a perfect introduction to Kenya’s abundant wildlife. Let African Kenya Safaris arrange your getaway. Just reach us here and we’ll have you on the safari road pronto.
