Truthfully, Diani Beach is so clean, uncrowded, and luxuriously perfect that you may just want to soak up the sun, wade into the turquoise Indian Ocean and call it a day. That’s how soothing you’ll find these welcoming sands before or after your safari adventure.
But you should know that the beach also offers all sorts of nearby activities. Some are on the sea. Some are under the sea. Some are even above the sea. And some have absolutely nothing to do with the sea but are just plain fun, special, and even exotic.
So Where Is Diani?
On the pristine Kenya coast, just 30 km (18 mi) south of the country’s second-largest city, Mombasa. The beach is an unhurried sliver of gold about 17 km or 11 mi in length with clear, shallow waters perfect for wading. Voted three times Africa’s finest beach, Diani offers some massive undersea treasures for curious explorers.
Two brilliant coral reefs sustain a colorful world of undersea life – starfish, sea cucumber, lionfish, crabs, cuttlefish, squid, schools of technicolor fish, and plentiful sea turtles. The reefs are parallel to the shore, providing protection from strong waves, a snorkeler’s paradise.

You’ll also find over 20 world-class diving sites in and near Diani. Most are away from the shoreline, a quick 20-minute boat ride from the beach. On your way to your diving site don’t be surprised to spot some friendly dolphins keeping you company and sometimes even whale sharks.

More Fun Stuff To Fill Your Day
Ever go jet skiing – it definitely qualifies as fun. How about parasailing? Diani offers opportunities for both. And for the truly adventurous, sky-diving over the stunning African coast is a heart-stopping experience.
Now you may have ridden over the beach in a 4 x 4 Jeep but have you ever gone for a camel ride along the shore? Here at Diani enjoy an exotic, loping ride atop your own camel. You’ll enjoy views of the water’s edge and coastline just as adventurers and traders have done for hundreds of years.
Care to move off the beach to explore the local towns? You can book an easy bike tour to discover shops and local markets.
Other tours feature local trips to nearby Mombasa to explore that multi-cultural bazaar of a city and perhaps take an evening cruise on an authentic dhow.
Shops, Restaurants, Boutiques, and More
But as alluring as it is, Diani is not just a sand, sea, and surf beach scene. There are plenty of attractions in town, with its international mix of boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, discos, casinos, and late-night watering holes.
A favorite is Ali Barbour’s, a restaurant set in a several hundred thousand-year-old cave lit by glittering golden lights.
The club scene here is busy and with few restrictions – in Kenya, you can party until the sun comes up over the sea.

Start Or End Your Safari
Finally, Diani is a fabulous way to end your Kenya safari. Relax on the sands with photos and memories of your wildlife adventures. But it’s also a great jumping-off point to start your safari as well, journeying to parks like Tsavo, Amboseli, and the Masai Mara.
Beginning or ending your adventure, all roads, plans, and dreams will bring you to the perfect warm waters of Kenya’s Diani Beach. Just let us know your dreams – we’ll make them happen.
